Magellan Aerospace Corp supplies components to the aerospace industry. It has two major product groups: aerostructures and aeroengines. Its engines and parts may be applied to new aircraft, or as replacement parts to existing platforms. The company also provides aftermarket support by conducting specific repairs and other maintenance services. It serves both commercial (approximately three-fourths of total sales) and defense markets. Additionally, parts and equipment may be provided for power generation projects, but sales do not constitute a material amount. The three geographic regions to which Magellan primarily sells are Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Magellan Aerospace Corporation (OOTC:MALJF) (TSX:MAL) ($26.93; $1.5B market cap) announced Q1 2026 results:

Q1 sales of $285.1 million vs. $260.9 million in the prior year, ahead analyst estimates of $279.7 million
Q1 2026 EPS: $0.29 vs. $0.19 in the prior year, below analyst estimates of $0.34
Commercial markets represented 62.2% of revenue, while defence markets represented 37.8% of revenue.
Magellan signed a Teaming Agreement with Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project.

Our Quick Take:

Magellan’s Q1 was solid enough to keep the aerospace/defense thesis intact, even if it was not a perfect report. The company continues to offer a useful mix of commercial aerospace and defense exposure, which is why we added it to our Defense and Aerospace Screen last month. We have been actively looking for more aerospace-related ideas after past success with names like Tat Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:TATT) and Firan Technology Group Corporat (OTC:FTGFF) (TSX:FTG), and Magellan still fits that broader theme.

The main caveat is that this was not a clean earnings acceleration story yet, with EPS coming in below expectations despite stronger revenue. Still, the Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems teaming agreement for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project adds another defense-related angle to monitor.

For now, MALJF remains a quality aerospace/defense name with a consistent dividend that we want to keep tracking, but we would like to see better earnings leverage and more evidence that defense opportunities can become meaningful growth contributors before getting more aggressive.
