Sales of $28.8 million vs $24.5 million in the prior year

EPS of $0.07 vs $0.01

"Business momentum continued into the second quarter, with top and bottom-line growth comfortably surpassing the corresponding prior-year period and Q1 2024," said Mr. Joe Abbandonato, President and Chief Executive Officer of Imaflex. "This solid performance is a direct result of our proven business model, built on innovation and profitable growth. Our strategic investments to elevate production capacity, enhance capabilities and drive operational efficiencies are contributing to these results."

Outlook

"I am pleased to see a solid return to growth after a difficult industry downturn," said Mr. Abbandonato. "Although the pace and magnitude remain uncertain, we expect continued strength over the medium term, supported by improving markets, growing customer demand and new equipment. As usual, third quarter performance will be impacted by Québec's annual construction holiday, which results in temporary plant closures across the province, including Imaflex's Montréal and Victoriaville plants.

With our multi-year equipment expansion project nearing completion, we are focused on boosting utilization levels and delivering sustainable, profitable, growth. Collectively, this should have a more meaningful impact on revenues and profitability, while also heightening operational efficiencies. We are excited about our future and encouraged by the growth platform we have built."

Imaflex is focused on the development and manufacturing of innovative solutions for the flexible packaging space.

Research

Imaflex Inc (OOTC:IFLXF) (IFX.V) ($0.73; $38.2M market cap)

Together with its subsidiaries, Imaflex develops, manufactures, and sells flexible packaging materials for industrial and agriculture markets in Canada, the United States, and internationally. The Company is being negatively impacted by lower demand from some of its industrial customers packaging products due to recession fears. This has resulted in a weak financial performance over the past few quarters.

However, Maj learned a few things that are worth monitoring that could lead to substantial growth in the future. The two growth drivers could be the following:

Product Upgrade Cycle

The Company is going through an equipment (purchase) upgrade cycle which will allow it to handle more capacity and drive revenue growth. As you can see from the table, the company experienced some growth from 2019 to 2022 during its last upgrade cycle

It’s notable that the current upgrade cycle will accommodate even more growth than the previous upgrade cycle.

EPA Approval

The company is awaiting EPA approval for a new thin film product for the agricultural side of the business; if approved, it appears that it could be quite transformational. Basically, the thin film product will also include a coating of chemicals and pesticides replacing more labor intensive application of chemicals into agricultural land. This is further discussed in the PodClip.

Analyst estimates in the table above do not appear to take into account any of these possible bullish developments. You should also know that the Company has been waiting on EPA approval of the thin film product for a while and investors are starting to get tired of the waiting game.

So, there is obviously the risk that the EPA does not approve the product. However, management seems very confident that it should happen and could occur in the first quarter of 2024.
